Launch of the 1-litre car by Volkswagen XL1 is a vehicle of the future that is being built today
The XL1 by Volkswagen is the most efficient production car in the world with a fuel consumption of 0.9 l/100km. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid system, the two-seater can also be driven for up to 50 kilometres locally in pure electric mode, i.e. with zero emissions at point of use. The XL1 is an automotive hero that follows pure sports car design principles: low weight (795 kg), perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and a low centre of gravity (1,153 mm high). This gives the efficient Volkswagen the ability to cruise on the road at a constant speed of 100 km/h using just 6.2 kW. In all-electric mode, the XL1 requires less than 0.1 kWh to cover a driving distance of over one kilometre.

Ogier triumphs in Sweden - Volkswagen claims maiden victory in the World Rally Championship
Wolfsburg: A milestone for Volkswagen in motorsport: Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia (F/F) have won the Rally Sweden at the wheel of the Polo R WRC. In doing so, Volkswagen has already far exceeded its own expectations of what is the team’s debut season in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). In only its second competitive outing, the 315-hp World Rally Car from Wolfsburg emerged triumphant on the Scandinavian ice and snow against strong opposition – including nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb (Citroën).

New Volkswagen SUV concept makes global debut at Detroit show
Volkswagen has unveiled a new SUV concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Called the CrossBlue, it has been developed specifically for the U.S. and Canada, and if it goes into production would sit above the Tiguan and below the Touareg in the Volkswagen SUV line-up.

Euro NCAP: Five stars and four innovation awards for the new Volkswagen Golf
Wolfsburg: The new Golf has received a top five star rating by the European consumer protection organisation Euro NCAP. It also won the award for innovations in the area of integral safety at the highly esteemed “Euro NCAP Advanced Awards”. Along with Lane Assist and Front Assist, the key systems proactive occupant protection and the standard multicollision brake were recognised as pioneering safety innovations. Volkswagen's Polo and Touareg win again at Australia's Best Car Awards
Volkswagen has received two industry accolades at this year’s Australia’s Best Car Awards event earlier today. The frugal Volkswagen Polo 66TDI was once again named Best Light Car over $20,000 for a third consecutive year, while the well-appointed Volkswagen Touareg V6TDI defended its 2011 title as Best Luxury SUV Over $60,000.
