Volkswagen has always been at the forefront of tech, and that's why each and every Volkswagen is designed to keep you safe and make your driving experience as joyful and stress-free as possible.
The cruise control system with Automatic Cruise Control (ACC) lets you set the speed you want to travel and the gap you want to allow between you and the car in front. Using a radar sensor, the car then maintains your speed and your distance. In doing so it makes life easier for the driver, particularly on long journeys, and reduces the risk of exceeding the speed limit.
Get lost in the joy of the ride, but never on the road with the exhilarating App-Connect and our range of intelligent infotainment systems. Controlled via a large high resolution colour touch screen, you and your car are connected like never before. With App-Connect to sync the car with your smartphone, Bluetooth, SD card, CD player and Auxiliary inputs you’ll be connected, entertained and in touch.
Access your smartphone’s screen, selected apps, maps, and music through App-Connect on your car’s touchscreen and Voice Control. You can do this thanks to three innovative technologies: Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink® interfaces.
We’ve replaced the traditional speedometer with something more high tech. The Active Info Display presents all you need to know on a high-resolution 31.2cm (12.3 inch) screen. With five different views available, you can decide what you want to see. For example, in navigation mode, the speedo and rev counter are moved to the sides so there’s more space for the map. And because it’s connected to other systems, information like your phone contacts and music can be displayed right in front of you.
In their own unique way, each Volkswagen model is proof that smarts and style can go hand in hand. Our innovative driver aid technology brings you cars that are as safe to drive as they are pleasurable.
Whether reversing out of a busy parking lot or trying to squeeze into a tricky spot, an extra set of eyes are always handy. The Rear View Camera displays a live picture on your screen that shows you what’s behind you with two static guidance lines.
The Rear View Camera Plus brings an added level of ease to reversing your Volkswagen. It combines a live picture that shows you what’s behind you with two dynamic guidance lines. They work together to make reversing safer and easier.
Using a radar sensor, Front Assist detects when the vehicle in front is too close. It will warn you and prepare the car for braking. If nothing changes, it partially applies the brakes giving you a better chance of avoiding or minimising a collision. When you’re travelling below 30km/h, City Emergency Brake will prepare the brakes if a collision is likely. If the driver doesn’t brake, the system will do it automatically.
Using sensors on either side of the front and rear bumpers, together with parking distance sensors front and rear, Park Assist actively helps you 90 degree park, back into a park and get in and out of a parallel park.
Using a camera to monitor the markings on the road ahead, Lane Assist helps keep you safe by working to prevent you leaving your lane unintentionally. If you start to leave your lane without indicating the system alerts you visually and with a warning sound.
The Side Assist function can help make changing lanes even safer. You still need to use your rear vision mirror and glance over your shoulder but the system’s sensors will alert you to presence of a vehicle you may have missed that could be a risk if you change lanes.
Sensors in the rear of the car detect when another vehicle is in your blind spot, then alert you to its presence with an LED warning symbol in the door mirror on the side of the car where the hazard exists.
With Area View, a total of four cameras supply reassuring live images from all around the car. They combine so you can see everything in your immediate surrounds for a clearer picture of every traffic situation. 180° wide angle lenses increase your field of vision so you can, quite literally, see around corners.
If you’re parked on an incline greater than 5% this clever little function holds the brake pressure after you take your foot off the brake just long enough so you can drive away comfortably without rolling backwards.
The Descent Assist system, available in off-road mode, automatically brakes individual wheels to allow a safe and controlled descent down a hill, even without engine braking.
Outstanding active and passive safety features make Volkswagen cars the stand-out choice. From family to performance vehicles, the myriad safety features across our entire range inspires serious confidence in all conditions.
The traction control system (Anti-Slip Regulation) offers more comfort and safety, particularly when driving on slippery roads or surfaces. It manages wheel spin and adjusts engine power to ensure the best possible grip on the road.
This system monitors the driver for signs of fatigue, such as subtle changes in your steering movements and other independent signals. If fatigue is detected the driver is warned with an audible alarm, and visually on the multi-function display, with the recommendation that you take a break. Driver Fatigue Detection helps ensure safety when concentration can become difficult, particularly on long journeys or at night.
Volkswagen’s Safety Optimised Front Head Restraints are designed to protect your head and neck in the unlikely event of a collision. Correctly positioned head restraints designed to absorb kinetic energy work with your vehicle’s seat belts to minimise the effects of whiplash.
When there’s the potential for a collision, the front seat belts tense up to put you in the best spot for airbag protection. If your car starts to slip, side windows and the sunroof are also automatically closed.
When a collision is detected, this state-of-the-art system automatically applies the brakes faster than the driver can react. This slows you down so a second impact is lessened or avoided. For added safety, the hazard and brake lights are illuminated and remain on. The driver can regain manual control at any time.
Every Volkswagen will use one of two engine types. The first is TSI. It combines a small engine capacity, a turbocharger and the power of direct injection technology to seamlessly deliver high performance with low fuel consumption. The other is TDI, our highly-evolved diesel engine. TDI uses common rail technology to generate high performance with very low fuel consumption. Whichever one you choose, you know you can’t lose.
TSI is Volkswagen’s award-winning technology for petrol engines. It results in excellent drivability and instant acceleration in every gear. Plus, overtaking is safer and you can power up hills effortlessly, all with impressively low fuel consumption.
Volkswagen’s cutting-edge TDI engine with Diesel Particulate Filter features Common Rail technology that injects precise amounts of fuel at extremely high pressure. This results in remarkable torque and performance, with fuel economy to match.
This advanced 6 or 7 speed transmission, with electronically controlled clutches and gearshift, predicts and pre selects your next gear. That means you enjoy seamless power, traction or acceleration. Oh yeah, and your gear change only takes a measly 3-4 hundredths of a second.
An extension of the Electronic Differential Lock function, this clever addition helps create optimal handling in all conditions. Operating on both axles, it applies precise pressure to the wheel on the inside when cornering to help prevent wheel spin. As a result, understeering is reduced traction is improved and cornering is sportier and more accurate.
The 4MOTION all-wheel drive system distributes the engine’s power to all four wheels as required. By being responsive to conditions it ensures excellent traction, optimal handling & steering response and dynamics.
BlueMotion Technology include the Start/Stop system, brake energy recuperation, coasting function and gear shift recommendation. They all work together to create more economical driving, taking the strain off your hip pocket.
Part of BlueMotion Technology, this money-saving feature automatically stops the engine when you come to a standstill, and starts again on take-off, helping you cut back on fuel consumption.
Brake energy recuperation recharges your car battery using the kinetic energy created from braking or when coasting. Because the battery is always fully charged, the voltage in the alternator can be reduced which means lower fuel consumption.
When you take your foot off the pedal, your vehicle’s momentum is used to save fuel. The engine is declutched, which allows you to roll over a longer distance; then when the brake, accelerator or gear is operated again, the clutch is re-engaged and engine braking takes effect.
