The Spirit of Amarok Australia has been run and won for 2017, with only the best amateur 4-wheel drivers earning the right to represent Australia at the Spirit of Africa International Finals in August.
Held over 3 days, 63 teams pushed 21 Amaroks over 10 extreme challenges, in a professionally designed, all-terrain, all-skills, money-can't-buy experience.
The Spirit of Amarok Australia 2017 took place over three days at one of Australia’s toughest 4x4 testing and proving grounds in Victoria on 12, 13 and 14 May 2017.
63 amateur 4x4 teams got behind the wheel of an Amarok and tested their skills in a series of mud-sliding, sweat-breaking, gear-shifting 4WD activities, including speed tests, 4WD terrain and technical challenges.

The winning team from each day of the Spirit of Amarok Australia will receive an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to represent Australia against the best in the world at the Spirit of Amarok International Finals in August 2017.
Run over five days in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa, the finals are set to be a thrill-packed challenge of competitive off-roading against the top teams from the African and international elimination rounds. This year the toughest 4x4 competition has become even tougher with the playing field for 2017 expanded to include Germany and the United Kingdom.
Volkswagen is proud to partner with Pat the 4x4 guru. Having competed in the 2015 Spirit of Africa finals, Pat will be on hand to pass on tips and techniques for the make or break challenges. This year Pat has worked with the Spirit of Africa founder Sarel van der Merwe to design the most challenging of 4x4 events.
A household name in South Africa, ‘Supervan’ has just about won every motor racing and rally title on the African continent. Over 10 years ago, Supervan created the Spirit of Africa Trophy with a view of providing the "average" driver with an opportunity to test their off-road driving ability in a competitive environment. This year, Supervan helped Pat Callinan to design the Australian course, ensuring that the Aussie leg of the Spirit of Amarok is the most adrenaline filled yet.

Volkswagen will provide flights and land transfers (Melbourne only) to each interstate competitor on the day of the event. Victorian based competitors must make and fund their own travel arrangements to the venue. Exact timings and travel options will be communicated closer to the event.

The Spirit of Amarok challenge event will allow the winner and a companion of their choice to participate on one date being either 12, 13 or 14 May 2017 as determined by the Promoter. The challenge will require each of the winning participants to compete in a number of off-road driving challenges consisting of speed and skill tests. Each team will get one attempts at each stage and will be judged on accuracy and speed by the challenge coordinators.
Bring a copy of your confirmation email, your current valid driver’s license and the signed indemnity forms in order to participate in the challenge, which you would have received via email prior to the event.
Please ensure that you are dressed in long-sleeves (no shorts, or t-shirts) and that you wear closed in shoes (no heels or thongs). We also recommend a rain jacket and warm clothes as the location can have temperamental weather conditions.
Please keep personal belongings to a minimum as there will be limited storage onsite.
Each session is a full day and we will provide specific timings closer to the day. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the stated start time to register and enjoy light refreshments on arrival.
You will be driving the Volkswagen Amarok Core 4x4.
Unfortunately there is a strict policy at this circuit regarding spectators, so we request that participants don’t bring spectators. If you do need to bring someone along, be sure to let us know via email so we can organise with the venue in advance.
Light refreshments will be provided on arrival and during the course of the day. Lunch will also be provided.
Pictures from the event will be posted in the gallery on the website. Due to safety reasons, there will only be intermittent photography throughout the day. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee photos, although we will do our very best to capture your experiences.

Ample parking is available at the venue and will be clearly marked for your arrival.
