For more than a decade, Volkswagen Diesel vehicles have been engineered to run with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF). DPFs are an advanced technology that helps modern diesel engines run cleaner and more efficiently.
If your Volkswagen Diesel car is used exclusively for short trips or left standing idle for extended periods, it may not meet the requirements needed to clean itself (regeneration). You may receive a reminder about this in the instrument cluster.
If you regularly drive on motorways and highways under higher engine loads (2,500 – 3,000rpm), you may never see the DPF indicator light.
If your DPF light appears:
Note: The DPF regeneration will not activate if the fuel tank is less than ¼ full. If this occurs please refuel your vehicle to above ½ full and complete the action described above.
