Volkswagen Group donates $2.5 million to Australian bushfire relief and recovery

Volkswagen Group has today announced the donation of AUD$2.5 million to aid in the relief and recovery of the catastrophic bushfires that continue to burn in eastern and southern Australia.

“Thousands continue to suffer from this unprecedented disaster,” Volkswagen Group Australia’s Michael Bartsch said.

Volkswagen has been part of Australian life since the 1950s. Therefore, we step up both to assist those at forefront of this crisis and to aid in what will be a protracted recovery.”

Mr Bartsch explained that $500,000 had been designated for the fire services and the relief of those affected by the fires; $1 million would be channelled towards organisations involved with endangered wildlife; the remaining $1 million would go towards reforestation.

Made on behalf of Volkswagen Group brands in Australia, this response is being reported as “among the most generous from corporate Australia”.

In addition to this commitment, our very own Managing Director, Michael Bartsch, pledged to shave his renowned moustache of 20 years, if Volkswagen Group Australia staff raised $10,000 for the NSW Wildlife Rescue Services.

Raising over $11,000, you can watch below as our MD took to the barber’s to reveal his new look.
